On Twitter.com, users are only able to search for a username, first or last name, business or brand. Nothing more than that. But what if you would like to follow people living in the same city or having similar interests? This is when LocaFollow comes in handy. It’s a newly-launched Twitter app which enables you to locate and follow Twitter users by searching in their Bio and Location fields.
To start searching, simply punch in an occupation (CEO, blogger, marketing) or interest (playing soccer, cooking) into the ‘Bio’ search bar and the name of the city into the ‘Location’ search field. Hit ‘enter’ and a list of Twitter users related to the keywords and location which you’ve entered earlier on will be displayed in a neat and clean layout. You’re see all the user details including his last tweet, without need of more “info buttons”. After authenticating through the OAuth protocol at Twitter.com, you can then follow all the users in your search results by a simple click of the “Bulk Follow” button.
Unlike other alternatives like Twellow, a directory of public Twitter accounts, the results displayed in LocaFollow are based on Google Search. LocaFollow relies heavily on Google Search because it trusts the results produced by the search engine giant are accurate and relevant due to Google’s complex algorithm. On the other hand, Twellow updates its data once in a blue moon, and the results might have been outdated by then. However, the downside with LocaFellow is users would have to optimize their Twitter profiles using SEO in order to appear in the top few placings.
