According to Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere 2009 report, 72% of the respondents said that they blog for passion and make no income through blogging. However, the rest (professional bloggers) are making more money than ever from blogs. Among the professional bloggers, 54% are part-timers, 32% are self-employeds, and the remaining 14% are corporates. 17% of the self-employed bloggers make a living from blogging, and their main sources of revenue are through display ads, search ads, affiliate marketing links, paid speeches, and being a spokesblogger. Only a relatively small percentage of them earn money from paid events, rich media ads, and paid postings.
This is one of the most interesting figures among all. The mean annual ad revenue of part-time and full-time bloggers is $42,548 (all), $14,477 (part-timers), and an astounding $122,222 earned by the self-employed bloggers! That’s a lot for a person who can work at the comfort of his/her home.
According to Wikipedia, technology blog giants TechCrunch and Mashable generates a monthly revenue of $200,000 and $166,000 respectively.
