When Twitter was launched in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Evan Williams, it was merely a micro-blogging platform that enables users to share with their friends, co-workers and family members what they are doing in less than 140 characters. However, as Twitter gains popularity worldwide, it’s becoming more of a website that is filled with real-time information of the things we care about — work, industry, company, news.
Apparently, Twitter is “killing” traditional news websites as it has a relatively huge community. Everyone becomes a journalist and break and spread news much quickly and probably more accurate than CNN, BBC, New York Times, etc. A good example would be last year’s Iran election. It would be extremely dangerous for journalists to enter Tehran because of dozens of violent riots. This is when the Iranians published tweets to tell the world what’s happening in Iran. As such, most newspaper publishing companies rely on Twitter for news events and information.
If you’re looking for an easier way to read news on Twitter, there’s a site for that. Head over to Newstwit, a real-time news aggregator and filter across hundreds of topics. Developed by Liquid Ventures, the site gathers together the latest news, arranged by category. Some of these include “Sports”, “Tech” and “Business”. You can also find them by states too. For example, if you’re only interested in news events happening in California, simply select the “California” channel, and Newstwit will then display the latest news from the U.S. state.
The site works similar to Twitter’s new feature — Lists. The only difference between Lists and Newstwit is that the latter enables you to read news without any much hassle, all thanks to its wide variety of topics.
