Even though Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has been the laughing stock for the past few years, but a study by Devil Mountain Software’s community-based Exo.performance.network (Xpnet) concludes that at least 80 per cent of users at large IT organizations continue to use IE at least 4 hours a day. Meanwhile, Firefox and Chrome come in second and third respectively, followed by Opera and Safari.
The data was compiled from over 6 billion process records through their network of 21,000+ registered xpnet.com users located around the globe who use Windows PCs and servers.
NetApplications Google’s Chrome browser, which was launched on September 2008, ranks third, beating Apple’s Safari. What surprised me was that Internet Explorer 8’s market share was a massive 20.86 per cent, ahead of Firefox 3.5 (16.32 per cent).
It’s quite difficult to predict which web browser will rule the Internet five years down the road. Only time can tell.
