Samsung Launches Google Android Rival Called Bada

bada

What an eccentric name! (Well, the name ‘bada’, which means ‘ocean’ in Korean.)

Anyway, in an effort to keep up with the likes of today’s mobile consumers who are craving for rich and connected application-experiences, the folks at the Korean electronics company has announced its own open source mobile platform that enables Samsung mobile users to enjoy a fun and diverse mobile experience.

Dubbed as “the next wave of the mobile industry”, Bada, a new platform with a variety of mobile applications and content, works similarly to Google Android Market and Apple’s App Store, which allow developers to create applications for mobile phones or smartphones.

Samsung bada includes a next generation UI framework with feature sets and design elements that facilitate leading-edge user interfaces for every bada application. The platform will allows developers access to many elements of the phone, such as dialler, phonebook and messaging, which means applications can interact with nearly every element of the phone. It also offers an easy-to-integrate platform for mobile operators so that mobile operators can provide unique and differentiated services to their customers.

Dr Hosoo Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Media Solution Center at Samsung Electronics said, “By opening Samsung’s mobile platforms we will be able to provide rich mobile experiences on an increasing number of accessible smartphones.” He added, “bada will be Samsung’s landmark, iconic new platform that brings an unprecedented opportunity for operators, developers and Samsung mobile phone users around the world.”

The SDK for developers will be launched next month, when Samsung launches Bada more fully at a global event in London. It’s too early to predict whether Samsung will beat rivals like Google Android, Blackberry and Apple’s iPhone/iPod Touch.
