Apple’s App Store has got us hook, line and sinker.
Forget about Nokia’s Ovi, Google’s Android Market, Blackberry’s App World, Samsung’s Samsung Apps, LG’s LGApplication and Window’s App Store. They will never be able to compete with the gargantuan App Store, no matter how hard they try.
Or will they?
Although Apple’s iPhone is the top-selling phone (17 million) in the world (category: One that can connect to an app store), Samsung has sold more phones in total (31 million),Nokia second with 29.8 million, then comes the iPhone, LG third with 14.9 million and Motorola third with 12 million. So tell me, can the App Store maintain it’s lead?
Since July 14th 2008, the Apple App Store’s users have downloaded 8,210,000 apps. Impressive eh?
Samsung Apps, has a 78,296 Alexa rank (not exactly impressive for a corporate site) but the Nokia Ovi store has an alexa rank of 2,162 which is not bad for a newly begun app store. This is mainly due to the massive boost from Nokia stores worldwide advertising.
At the moment we can expect the Ovi Store to catch up quite quickly with Apple’s hype dying down….but will it catch up quickly enough?
