If you’re an avid fan of a particular team of the NBA or NHL and want to catch up with the latest statistics on Twitter, then I’d suggest you trying out a newly-launched site called StatTweets. What this service does is that, it creates a Twitter account for every NBA, NHL, College Basketball and College Football teams and releases news and scores for each of them.
So how does this wonderful idea came about. As the founder explained on the site, he wants to integrate sports data in interesting ways and finds that most sports-related media outlets that have a Twitter account simply blast everything through a single account of which he doesn’t find them very useful. Besides simply news and live game scores, it even provides standings, rankings, point spread updates, and other stats for your favorite basketball or football team all. All you need to do is to simply follow the account and you can browse them through the drop-down menu at the main page.
It seems that this Twitter site is gaining popularity and many who love sports and uses Twitter would try out StatTweets. Here’s a tweet of a satisfied user – “Reading up on the Celtics score the day after a game is a ritual for me. Today, because I check Twitter first, and I follow @CelticsStats, I went to StatSheet. I read the recap and box score, and I’m good. No need to go to ESPN.com or others. So you’ve quenched my Celtics need for today. I love it.” @YoavShapira
Overall, I find this quite useful but I feel that it lacks popular football teams in the English Premier League which will definitely attract tons of followers as the fans base is relatively high in the United States. Currently, StatTweets supports at least a few hundred of teams and all these accounts are automated (powered by Statsheet).
