According to the folks at the Windows Live Team, they intend to retire one of its services – Windows Live Events next year. Launched in October 2007, Windows Live Events is a customized version of Windows Live Spaces which enables users to organize events and share memories all in one place. Now, the focus will then be shifted to Windows Live Calendar, a web application that helps users easily schedule appointments and meetings, set reminders, sync multiple calendars, and let others know when you’ll be available.
New participants who would like to create new events using Windows Live Events wouldn’t be able to so starting from September 2009 but existing users are still able to access and edit their events until 2010. By then, they should have saved all their files or photos to a local machine before the service discontinues.
One of the main reasons why Windows Live Events would be discontinued is because they wanted to integrate the current features into Windows Live Calander to make it a much more interesting and useful place to schedule appointments and at the same time, organize events all in one service. Of course, they wanted it to attract and garner more potential users and compete with its arch rival – Google Calendar.
