Polar Rose: Tag Facebook Photos Quickly using Face Recognition

It’s indeed very tedious to tag your friends whenever you upload photos to your Facebook profile, especially if you post a lot of photos online. But now with Polar Rose, tagging your friends in photos has become a much easier process. Polar Rose, a company focused on digital content analysis, has launched an application that brings facial recognition to all your Facebook photos.

After creating an account with Polar Rose, it grabs all your Facebook photos via Facebook Connect. Using a state-of-the-art face recognition technology, it marks out the faces in the photos with a small box. Start naming your friends in these square boxes and the site will then shows you possible matches for that person in other photos you have – reject any incorrect matches with a click. Now you have named that person in the other photos they appeared in.

However, there’s a quite frustrating downside with Polar Rose. Facebook automatically posts about this to the named person’s wall. According to the folks there, it’s an automated process Polar Rose cannot control, but they will try and reduce the number of posts Facebook makes as much as they can, from their side, as soon as possible.

Overall, this refined auto-tagging tool is quite useful as it enables Facebook users to organize their pictures and create people-centric albums quickly and without any much hassle. It’s certainly suitable for people with lots of disorganized photos, and they simply can’t fork out time to manually tag their friends.
