This year has been great for technology. Many companies have created new products. There were many products that everyone wanted to be released, or become big. Here is a list of something that was expected to become big, but never did.
1. Google Wave: Earlier this year Google rolled out their new service called Wave. Wave was essentially going to kill email. It was a way to let people collaborate on projects and ideas. The reason it got so much hype is the from the invite only model. People were trying so hard to get an invite, it just felt like the next, best, service out there. After people received their invite and signed up, they found that it really has no point.
2. Apple Tablet: When the date was released for WWDC ’09 people thought Apple would roll out a new tablet. Many images were released and people were almost positive it was to happen. Instead, Apple released their iPhone 3Gs. In the last week more rumors have flared up that the so called “iSlate” will be released in 1st quarter ’10.
3. Palm Pre: This phone got so much attention, it was unbelievable. People were almost sure this phone was to kill the iPhone. When it rolled out right before WWDC ’09 people were out to buy it. Some waited to see if an iPhone was going to be released at WWDC, and were smart. The people who waited, realized, that the Palm Pre was a complete failure.
4.Google to acquire Twitter: This rumor started in early ’09. Some heavy rumors started that Google was to buy Twitter for 1 billion. The rumor started to dissipate during the Spring, and nothing ever happened.
5. Swine Flu: I know this isn’t a technology blog, but this story really blew up in the media. Twitter and television stations really got the public really frantic. People thought it was a really huge deal, but admit it, it wasn’t. Only a small amount of people actually died from the disease (United States). Although, I think it’s a deal, but it isn’t that big of a deal.
Rumors are good. But sometimes they get really annoying. I also really enjoy new products trying to compete, but some of them just get to much hype. I hope 2010 brings great products.
