Living in a technologically-advanced world, many people nowadays flock to dating sites rather than the traditionally way of finding romance using match-making companies. Some even head to popular social networking platforms such as Facebook and MySpace to look for their perfect match online. This has been further encouraged by the launch of IamFreeTonight.com, a Facebook application that allows users to potentially meet people online who they are interested in dating.
With the exponential growth of Twitter, many developers are racking their brains to create Twitter applications to attract more users to use them. Most of the applications are pretty beneficial whereas some of them are just odd and useless.
Few weeks ago, I was wondering whether Twitter would become a so-called “dating service” whereby people can find their life partners on the web. Of course this thought is relatively impossible! Unlike rival Facebook, Twitter is not a private platform as it simply does not allows users to interact with each other without letting other friends to view the conversation. Also, Twitter is just a micro-blogging platform and users’ private information (age, pastimes, etc.) will not be revealed. Therefore, I am pretty sure that no one will start a date on Twitter itself.
Just now, as I was doing my usual routine of browsing for fresh web applications on the web, guess what nearly made my jaws dropped! Well, the name of the application is called Twitter-Love (hosted on Google App Engine). Currently in beta, this free service enables Twitter users to “Find Love on Twitterverse”. To me, this shouldn’t be known as a match-making application for Twitter. Why? To find a “suitable” partner, you would have to punch in a keyword that describes something you really love. The system will then generated a list of Twitterers that are known to tweet the very same words will crop up. Dubbed as “Possible Love Birds”, 15 users will be listed for each query made.
What made me laugh was that the developer warns users that “This website is not affiliated with Twitter. If you can’t find *the love* don’t blame us. We’re just here to make people smile!”
From my personal viewpoint, I find Twitter-Love useless when it comes to looking for a match online because it doesn’t even provides the information we need to know. However, it will be great for those who wants to interact with people around the world based on their niches or interests.
