Recently, I’ve decided to study another Web Programming Language to brush up my skills in Social Web. I want to try another language because PHP+MySQL is no longer perfect for me to develop for the social web. For detailed reasons, you can check out my pervious post in my personal blog: I’m tired developing with PHP+MySQL, now I want to study Ruby on Rails.
Yes, I’ve decided to study Ruby on Rails, although it is a little late to study this new language now, I still think it is really perfect for Social Web, because it is DRY and RESTful. I think you may not know what do these two terms mean. Well, let me tell you, DRY stands for Don’t Repeat Yourself, REST stands for REpresentational State Transfer. These two terms can make the Web Applications really simple and applicable.
I believe that Learning a new Web Programming Language is useful for myself, because I wanted to develop something for the social web all by myself. Actually, Twitter is built by Ruby on Rails too, I am very proud of that! Ruby on Rails is very social, and most importantly, using Ruby on Rails can reduce development time. I have been attracted by Ruby on Rails because of the amazing speed to build applications.
I am still young, I always think that it is too young for me to study this thing which is difficult to understand. Really, I can do most well in PHP, but except for Objects and Regular Expressions, they need memorize a lot and very hard thinking. Ruby on Rails is based on Objects, so it can be a huge challenge for me.
Why I have to reduce the frequency of blogging? Actually, blogging takes me really lots of time, I won’t give up because it is really important for me, but everyone’s time is limited, I think I should do more important thing for me. In my view, I believe that developing wonderful web applications is more important than writing post, so I have to make this decision.
I may write 2 or 3 posts per week, not so many, but I think it is enough for me. I believe that Xavier will provide the most important information – IT News and Online Tips for you guys, and I can write some experiences and observations that I want to share them to you. Also, I may also write study journal in my personal blog, but I do not expect anyone to read them, because they will be only journal, nothing important. As well, my applications – AskMe, Bookmarks and IdeaBoard, as well, the previous project TagCK, will be released later, and I will transfer all of them to be on Rails.
I have a special plan to build the Social Web by myself, includes discovering => ideas, developing => codes and operating => revenues (of course, will be re-invested). I’ve got an Internet Non-Profit Team called xWaylab, I believe that Ruby on Rails will be the main force for xWaylab in a short-term, so I just want to tell you all that I really have to study myself and spend less time on blogging.
It’s really unfortunate, right? But I still can continue writing, and I hope I can write better posts for you all. For more detailed information, and to keep touch with me, you can visit my homepage (only blog is available at the moment): Pathway’s Home.
