ANOTHER Golden Console (PS3)

ps3

iPhones, Wiis, Xboxes… over my time on twitter I’ve been sent a link to a picture of just about every gadget, piece of tech or console that has been covered in gold. Most of them even have some diamonds thrown in just to add a touch, and at least 10 times the original item’s cost — probably far far more. Well, Engadget has found another one of these ridiculous gadgets.

I’m not saying I wouldn’t trade this one for a normal PS3, but as well as the fact that with the £199,995 (about $320,000) that this console is apparently worth you could buy some, in fact a whole lot of, more useful stuff, merely dipping something in gold won’t make it any better for gaming. A console isn’t as bad as the iPhone 3GS which was covered in gold with a diamond as the home button and apple logo of diamonds – imagine carrying that around in your pocket- but maybe someone who is crazy enough to buy this could think about donating the money to a charity instead.

If I was rich I’d buy several houses, cars, gadgets and some more things I don’t Really need, but NEVER this. Dipped in 22 carat gold, this console from Stuart Hughes is, to quote Engadget, ‘a stark reminder that being super rich often leads to gaudy, tasteless, nearly criminal displays of ridiculousness.’

I couldn’t agree more, and I doubt insurance would be cheap (even if this is probably too heavy to steal) and it would make me laugh if the PS3 broke, leaving just a broken console covered in gold! I’m just trying to say that I can’t find an earthly reason why someone would want to buy this instead of to show off. However, even if you’re going to show off it would be more fun to just buy yourself and your friends a PS3, TV, gaming chair, controller and headseat each to play a game on.

You could still afford a load of other things. If anyone wants to buy this, then I beg you not to. There are so many things you can do with the $320,000 not just for yourself but for others too. While I love the odd blog post or tweet about a gold plated super expensive piece of already great technology, people actually buying such things are just confirming anyone who has EVER talked about greedy rich people.

Engadget don’t write too much about the PS3. It could be because there just isn’t much else to say, or because it doesn’t even have diamonds on it! No wonder they have nothing to write about. The author probably found a console that did have diamonds on it and went to play on that instead. Seriously, not even the whole console is covered in gold. Worst. Showoff console. Ever.
