Google Treats China Staff To ‘Avatar’ After Threat

It’s highly possible that Google will cease its operations in mainland after a “highly-sophisticated and targeted” cyber attack, which had resulted in the loss of intellectual property and the breach of two e-mail accounts.

To appreciate the Google employees in China for their hard work, Google took them to watch one of the world’s highest-grossing movie ever — Avatar. A reporter from a local newspaper claimed that Google has purchased over 200 movie tickets from China Star Cinema and allowed its staff to take the afternoon off on Thursday to watch it.

When the news of Google’s decision to leave China first broke out, employees were told they can take paid leave. However, most staff still came for work on Thursday and they don’t seem to be emotionally affected by the incident, an insider source states. Business was as usual and even meetings were carried out. Employees from the marketing department didn’t abandon their business trips and even went abroad to Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States to visit clients.

The source also claimed that many employees have received calls from headhunters, some of which are from local rivals such as Baidu. The compensation package will be given based on the staff’s duration of stay at Google China. Most employees will receive a “N+5” or “N+6” compensation. As for the new comers, they will receive the “N+1” or “N+2” compensation.
