HOW-TO: Securely Post To Facebook & Twitter Using Email

There are many different ways to post your updates to both Facebook and Twitter simultaneously without the need to visit the two websites. For example, you can do so via TweetDeck (a Twitter desktop client) or Friendbar (a Firefox add-on) or even PeopleBrowsr (a multi-purpose web-based application). If you’re looking for a client that enables you to update your social streams via email, then you should give Betwn.us a try!

Betwn.us is a newly-launched service that allows you to securely post on Facebook and Twitter through your email. Here how it works – you send an email to a specific email address at Betwn.us, and the client takes care the rest of the job. Your message will then be posted to your Facebook Wall and Twitter timeline almost instantaneously.

To get started, register your email address with the service by sending an email to register@betwn.us from the email account you want to register. An email will be sent to you and follow the instructions stated in it. After you’ve logged in, connect your Betwn.us account with Facebook and Twitter through Facebook Connect and Twitter Open Authentication Protocols for the respective services. Once done, send your update to the unique email address under the “Alias” section.

According to the folks at Betwn.us, “You can post almost everything you can normally send through email. This means you can send all your photos to Twitter followers as a slideshow, and to Facebook users at the same time through your email account. We post the subject of your email on Twitter and Facebook along with a secure link to the contents. This allows you to post large documents and other items like images and videos to Twitter and Facebook from the convenience of your favorite email reader.”

Overall, I don’t find Betwn.us as useful as other clients like TweetDeck but at least it’s trying if you’re looking for a new way to update the two services simultaneously.
