The “iSlate” Has a Competitor! Does It Really Matter?

The days leading up to CES (Consumer Electronics Show) are always filled with tons of rumors. We have heard rumors of the new Apple “iSlate”, Google’s Chrome OS Tablet, Dell Streak, and a rumor just released, a new HTC tablet. The tablet is rumored to have multi-touch, a 1 GHZ Snapdragon chipset, and run Android. It is obviously something to compete with whatever Apple is thinking up.

With all of these tablet rumors, it has really got me thinking, do we really need a tablet? We already have mobile phones, laptops, and netbooks. What would really be the point? Where would you use a tablet? If you are sitting in a meeting you could easily use a netbook, which has a nice phsyical keyboard, instead of using a sketchy on screen keyboard on the tablet.

Obviously tablets will eventually have to be made. We can build off the technology, but I just don’t understand all of the hype.
