Twitter Verified Account: Another Useless Thing Just Like Twitter Itself?

Twitter is really, actually, definitely, undeniably and literally a useless thing, but many people still love it, useless thing also has its value. If you feel disagree about my idea, simply think what are the special feature of Twitter? Are they unique? If these don’t help, you can refer to my previous article – 5 Reasons Why Twitter is Not Supposed to Be So Successful, after that, you will know why I said so.

These days, Twitter released a new feature called Verified Account, it seems to be effective as people are expecting some thing like this. However, is Twitter doing something like #fixreplies? Is Twitter doing something that is actually useless? Let’s find it out.

Actually you can read through http://twitter.com/help/verified directly for detailed information about this feature, I don’t want to explain it again.

In this page, you will never find out how it works, that’s the issue. They only told you to place a logo or badge on your official website, it’s simply verifying your website, nothing about the real person. Now I have the curiosity to know how can Twitter know whether or not I am the real owner of a specific account.

Let’s see what’s inside the account verification. Actually I have tested with my own account (@Pathway8) already, so now I’m using @WeLoveYOG (a group account of Xavier and me) instead.

See, besides Website Verification, there are only two fields left, Primary contact name and Additional contact information. I wondered that how can Twitter verify a specific individual with these two blur fields? That’s why they verified only a limited number of celebrities now, I think.

That’s all what Twitter can do in the Internet, I also concerned about that why Twitter never follow Facebook about Account Verification, Facebook uses Mobile Phone to verify, but it’s US Only. Now Twitter has the ability to send SMS to global, so Account Verification like Facebook is a quite good idea, that can prevent most of spammers from using Twitter.

Currently, Twitter has no other choice, they have to make users happy with this new feature, so they can only create such a useless plan. Is it true that every useless thing Twitter did would be loved by people? If you have the answer, leave comment below…
